Ubuntu Wars again

While it isn't officially supported, we have many users who successfully run NewsBin under Linux with a Windows emulator (Wine is the most popular). This forum exists for you Linux guys to share your experience getting NewsBin running on Linux as well as report any strangeness that we may or may not be able to fix. DThor is the resident expert.

Ubuntu Wars again

Postby neonjohn » Fri Jan 23, 2009 5:25 pm

Trying to get NBP Vers 5.42 Build 8974 and Ubuntu 8.04/Wine 1.0.0 to live happily ever after. All are virgin installs. This is the first wine program installed after installing Wine.

I used the wine configure advice in another thread to not let windows manager paint the screen, etc. That has the program running but it is fragile. It zombies if the article list is too large or I select too many items.

I'm now on dialup so I use NBP to write .nzbs that I ship off to a remote server that does my downloading. I visit a friend with broadband every so often to collect my booty. All I need NBP to do is be stable enough to download the articles and let me collect them together to write NZBs.

Halp!

Here is the diagnostic printed to a terminal screen when run from the shell

jgd@neonjohn:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/NewsBin$ wine nbpro >foo.txt 2>&1

Would I be correct in assuming that replacing one or more of the Wine DLLs with a windows one would fix these problems? If so, which ones.

TIA,
John

How do I configure ubuntu Linux to log into the server at work? At my job our computers are configured to log into the server here to connect to the internet. I installed ubuntu using wubi and when I log into ubuntu I can't connect to the internet. I tried setting the ip manually that my windows uses but still not connecting. So obviously I need to log into the server but how? Please help. thanks. Ah and another thing I went to networks and it wont even see the server or anything. Help. thanks.
