Upgraded to V6.3 Build 1832 from V5.59

Postby ukdragon » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:24 pm

Cannot start the download dispite the the file being listed within the download. it happens to all files that I try to download. Using release 5.59 I had no issues and if I fall back to 5.59 then again my problem is resolved. Must be some incompatablity between my system and the v6.3 release. Can you help

Looking at the Logging tab I see the following message:

[01:40:18] HIGH - Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.2

Could this be the reason for the download not starting up.

- First, I'd verify that server is still in the options and is set to "news.giganews.com". If it's not this address, change it and then restart Newsbin.

- Second, make sure it's enabled. Make sure "Typical Retention" is disabled.

Once you do that, report back.

I have both the following servers defined and SSL Enabled:

news-europe.giganews.com
news.giganews.com

They both are enabled and "Typical Retention" has never been turned on for either server.

Have you made certain that your firewall has been set to let the new version of Newsbin access the Internet?

Yeah this. I'd expect there to be connection errors though.

I use Zonealarm on my PC Firewall. I disabled my firewall by shuting down the firewall and antivirus then stopped and started Newsbin with the same result. The only message on logging tab was as before:

[21:51:33] HIGH - Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.2

I can view the MOTD archive from the Help drop down and it opens Internet Browser without alerts from Zonealarm.

Viewing the MOTD archive is not the same as viewing the MOTD from within Newsbin at startup. I'd say you need to restart your computer to make sure the firewall is out of the way for your testing.

The messages you list in the Logging tab are normal startup messages. Sounds like there is nothing queued in the download list if that's all you are seeing.

My firewall automatically starts up when my computer is reloaded. I do not know which processes get started on PC reload. I have been a Newsbin user since 2006, The Download List tab shows a number of files queued to download. If I fallback 5.59 I can requeue those same files and they come over just fine. Any other suggestions?

When I disabled my Zonealarm firewall Windows Security Center kicked in and enabled the Microsoft firewall. I turned this off and stopped and started Newsbin but still the exact same result.

Maybe it's time to clean Newsbin completely off your PC and install from scratch.

I don't really know what your problem is and have no way to reproduce it.

This tells me it's a firewall configuration issue. You have correctly configured your firewall to allow 5.59 through but Version 6 looks like a different program to your firewall so it needs to be re-configured to allow it through too. We helped you identify the issue but we can't tell you how to do this, you should consult your firewall's documentation.

I completely deleted Newsbin Pro from my system. Disabled my firewall and antivirus. Then reinstalled 6.3. NZB's queued and started downloading. I turned on my Firewall and Antivirus and all downloads continued and new ones also started up and completed. Does not strike me as a firewall issue, but who knows, at least I'm up and running. Thank you for your help.
