Regarding the email about the Internet Search update...

Postby Ocean » Tue Apr 22, 2014 8:54 pm

I'm glad that NewsBin is making an effort to strip out spam, but I am very concerned about not having control to enable or disable such features.

In the app itself, I can select which anti-spam measures I want, or turn them off completely. However, measures that are used on the back-end may strip out posts that I actually want to see. A simple example of this is that RAR files containing EXE files can be perfectly valid, depending on what's being grabbed.

I have to say that I am not in favor of anti-spam measures that I have no control over. Regarding the Internet Search feature, I pay for **uncencored** search results. Anything that gets hidden should be directly the result of a configuration setting I have control over.

I'd suggest waiting till we actually do it, then tell us what we're missing.

If results are being hidden on the back-end, I can't really tell you what you're missing, can I? :)

To clarify, please give users a way to get unfiltered results from the Internet Search. Let us do the filtering from within NB.

I just want to thank you both for discussing this, rather than just shooting down a dissenting opinion. :)

Quade and I came up with a design that will allow searching in "Clean" mode and "Raw" mode. Even though it wasn't in this thread, we have had offline discussions with many others who also advocated for this approach. Thanks for your input, discussions like this keep Newsbin development going in a direction that keeps the needs of the community in mind.
