Release was better than beta... - how do I go back

Sorry, I find the new beta confusing. I want the post to disappear from the download window when they have downloaded. This new way of doing thing... ...did anybody asked for this? Just confusing and annoying; why should this be an improvement?

I've been om Nb since 2004 and I love you all, but why do you change the basics without asking people if they want this?

Do I need to do anything special to go back to the release version?

if the 5.59 is no more on your disk, download it on this site and install it. All work fine as before for me

I had to "import" the headers to use the beta;

will the headers from beta appear correctly in the release version?

You really should consider waiting for release. This is an open beta. You're commenting like you think it's finished.

Are things supposed to stay in the download queue? Probably not. It's still being hashed out what will happen when something doesn't complete properly. Me personally, I like the download queue cleared out as much as possible, if a download failed to extract, I like to deal with it elsewhere. Some users, no, they want it sitting in one place alerting them to the fact that something didn't finish. Add to that the fact that it's a beta, and some things aren't completing in some scenarios...

Spools are imported so that you can easily go back to v5 without having to re-download.

If you want v6 to look and behave exactly like v5, I strongly recommend staying with v5, though, based on your reaction to how the spools appear. You might want to take a moment and actually try it out, rather than being abruptly confused.

no, you will need to redownload any headers that you downloaded in v6

items will get removed from the window unless they have no pars or are incomplete or you have autopar disabled

I understand how it is supposed to work. I liked the handling of the 5 better.

I understand it's a beta, but it was kind of presented to be very near a final version - well, I might have got that wrong :-)

Anyways; I hope they will leave the handling pretty much like in 5.

But I still have a feeling it is slower than the release version. Takes a while before anything happens after you put something to download. I've used NB for 6 years - still; I could be wrong...

very near final? far from it so im not sure where you got that one from

i dont see any difference between v5 and v6 speedwise

and thats the reason v5.59 is still there, for the ones that dont/wont move to v6

"Version 6 has evolved to be very usable and reliable even though it is still in Beta testing."

OK - I kind of figured that that the main structure of the 6 was final, and that they were working on bugs etc :-)

On my system v6 is actually MUCH faster than v5. That may be partly due to the fact I use a NAS for my Newsbin Data and Download folders and the new disk caching helps stop things from stuttering.

I have also found that it starts immediately you queue something - not sure why you think it does not. One difference is that if you do not have the top level entry uncompacted there is less visible feedback as you are getting the aggregate for that file set rather than seeing something for every chunk.

Downloaded 1.65 GB and now the download window is clear telling me what I need to know; and there are 6 files in the par list. Simple and easy to manage!!!!

Sometimes change can take getting used to. I know I didn't like some of the interface changes with v6 when I first encountered them, but as I use the software more and more, I'm getting used to it and now can't imagine going back. I suggest when v6 is released as a "finished" product, you give it a serious try.

I say when it's "finished" because beta testing isn't for everyone. I've run every open beta version of 6 and each has had it's problems. This is a normal part of the beta process and is not for everyone. I expect crashes, problems and things I don't like. I run it and provide feedback so that the developer can gather information about problems or things that need to be changed or revised.

Basically, don't run betas if you aren't comfortable with changes or potential problems.

Just my 2 cents, in spite of the myriad problems I have had with v6 betas, I love it. Definite move in the right direction in my mind. Perfect... no. But pretty damned good anyway.

i think many people seem to forget it is a beta and it will have bugs/issues to iron out
