Par2 file not being deleted

Postby Bazza42 » Sat Jul 09, 2011 6:58 am

When a rared file, not created by a nzb, is downloaded and successfully decoded, the par2
file is retained rather than being deleted.

Is this a feature or an oversight?

This should only happen if for some reason the PAR2 file was downloaded AFTER the file set was decoded.

No, this is happening whenever I load down a combined rar/par file.

So, if I download say ten different files into a single folder: assuming they are all complete, I finish with

aaa.par2
aaa.wmv
bbb.par2
bbb.wmv
ccc.par2
ccc.wmv

etc.etc.

when I access the folder after NewsBin has finished decoding the various elements.

The individual wmv files are fine: its just a minor nuisance having to do back and delete the par2 file.

Interestingly enough it appears that if any of the wmv files are incomplete and have to be 'recovered' the par2 file is deleted along with the other par files used in the recovery.

In my case the PAR2 files ARE being deleted after a successful download and decode.

I wonder what is different about what you are doing or the files that are being downloaded. For instance are they file sets (rar) or are they individual files that happen to have an accompanying PAR2 file but that do not need decoding.

There's no unrar/decode step for the specific files you mention and delete happens after unrar/decode so, I suspect that's why the par2's remain. In the case of a RAR set, the delete is part of cleanup after the unrar.

I'll have to think about it. There's no obvious solution.

Thanks.

Quade, thanks for the response. The only point I would make is that in similar circumstances
Verison 5 removed the par2 files. But as I said it is a minor 'nuisance' rather than a 'problem'.

Itimpi, I'm not too sure I understand the point you are making and I think we may be at cross purposes.

With the compression, which is now 'compulsory' in V6, it is slightly more difficult to define the precise
circumstances as much of the information is unavailable. So I've used Agent to define the precise order of
the posts. It is clearer to use, as an example, a set of, say TV episodes.

I want to load down a sequence of related files, say for the sake of argument, six episodes of a TV series, and for the sake of convenience
I place them in a single folder. (I'm using Windows).

Continuing the example the six episodes are each posted as a set of rars with the associated par files at the end of each segemnt.
Agent shows them as:

Episode1.par2
Episode1.part001.rar
Episode1.part002.rar
.
.
.
Episode1.part036.rar
Episode1.vol00+01.par2
followed by the remaining par2 'recovery files relating to that 'episode'

Episode2.par2
Episode2.part001.rar

yada, yada

They are shown in V6 as single line entries so I mark them for d/load. Assuming that the rars for each episode,
require no recovery, I end up with a folder containing

Episode1.par2
Episode1.wmv
Episode2.par2
Episode2.wmv
Episode3.par2
Episode3.wmv etc

As I remarked earlier the decoded files are fine the only 'issue' is the retention of the 'master' par2 file for
each set after the decoding has taken place.

Hope that clarifies the situation.

In 5.59, in similar circumstances, I would have just finished up with the six wmv files.

Thanks for your time.
