Cannot download any headers

Postby pharris » Sun Feb 12, 2012 12:07 pm

I have been using Newsbin for nearly 10 years now and I have just had my first wtf moment. I am currently running 6.21 build 1534. All my groups show up, but when I try to download headers nothing happens. I right click on the group..Any group and select download latest..Nada. I don't see the groups go into the download list..Nothing. IF I rightclick and select download all headers I can see the headers downloading in the download list, but a view group later shows nothing..

Any help would be appreciated. I am really not sure if I should just do a re-install of newsbin in a different directory and just keep my .nbi file or if what I have can be salvaged. I would hate to lose that much history. I use easynews and astraweb, and I have another newsbin install with a different set of groups (but same servers) that is still working fine...

Thanks
Phil

What do you see in the logging tab? Any errors?

Not much to go on. Turn on "Show Server Commands" on the network options, then try some header downloads and then look in the logging tab.

Disregard...Getting a little slow in my old age. Whenever I upgrade Newsbin it upgrades my default install then I copy the files to my alternate install. I must have missed something this time. I went back and recopied all the install files again and this time it worked.

On that same note...Is there a way to tell newsbin to upgrade a specific path when upgrading?

I normally just do a straight upgrade but sometimes - when there is a significant change - I make a copy of the Newsbin folders first. If there were problems with the install (not yet - knock on wood) I have the copies to go back to.

You can't really do an upgrade to a location other than where the program is registered as being installed. There is a special option in the internal test release to override this for testing purposes, but really could get messy if it was left in as a general option. After doing backups, you can always uninstall then install again. It's not entirely clear why you're doing this double install, just seems like another thing to go wrong.

Hi,

I'm having a similar issue but it seems ( in my case ) that the new headers are somehow being marked as old so get filtered out of the viewing list.

If you turn that filter off and sort by age can you see the missing headers?

There's an option to turn them old automatically on first view. You might have that set.
