We are releasing version 6.56 to address recent connection issues to news servers who have dropped support of SSLv3.

Version 6.56 is identical to 6.55 EXCEPT it now supports TLS connections, which is the alternative to SSLv3 and is still a secure connection. You can still force SSLv2 for servers that still support that if you want, it is under the "Really Advanced" button on the Server Options screen.

If you are seeing connection errors when using SSL, download 6.56 and let us know if it resolves your problems.

Use this download link to get the Release Candidate. After we get independent verification that it is ok, we will put out a new production release.

I've been having trouble, it may be fixed, but I'll post the details below.
Using Usenetserver with ssl...so, secure.usenetserver.com with default port 563
i installed the latest beta, 6.6B7, no downloading works. ssl on or off, doesn't matter, just doesn't do anything.
i contacted usenetserver, they said everything is fine on their end.

i installed the version here, the 6.56rc1.
everything works fine. ssl on or off, it's all good.

Normally this means a firewall or virus scanner is blocking the new version off the internet. Might want to check your security software.

Hi,for no apparent reason I can't use the search tonight.
I did not change my config in newsbin in the last 6 months.
ssl using secure.usenetserver.com 563 seems perfect.

Is there something wrong tonight with the search engine ?
:D
