Need to use 'Bypass filters' to download...

Postby nbwul62 » Sat Jul 09, 2016 4:22 am

When double clicking a .nzb file the download shows up in Newsbin.
Normally I would click the files, once, and they gat a 'v' and once downloaded the blue bullet changes into a green square.

This one-click, I discovered that this does not work anymore for files other than .par2

So, for example, there are 3 files (1 post)
1 file xyz.rar
1 file xyz.rar.par2
1 file xyz.sfv

I click them all, once.
for a split second the bullets in front of the filenames changes into a 'v'
then only the .par2 is actually downloaded.

I have to select the other two files and do a context menu download bypass filters to get the files.

Is this a 'settings-matter'?

Thanks

Pretty sure double-clicking when you have multiple files selected never work. Because the click resets the selection.

What happens if you select them then hit "Enter"? Do they all end up on the download list?

What happens if you hit pause first and then do this? Do all 3 end up in the download list? I'm not sure if you're reporting a adding to download list problem or a needs "bypass filters" problem. It sounds almost like something is filtering out the other files and that's why you need bypass filters.

If you pause, add them, they're all there but 2 end up in the failed list after you unpause, this sounds like they're being filtered out somehow.

What version are you using?

It is always a bit difficult to explain such detailed matters.

I have created a small video and created thumbnails of the steps.

You will see 2 files to be downloaded in this example
One .rar file
One .par2 file

I click them both, 1x
You will see the .par2 file status change to downloaded
the .rar file status icon, after a brief change into the 'v'sign, changes back back to a purple bullet again.
I tried to download it a few times.
then I used the bypass filter.
the file is then indeed downloaded.

Using 6.70RC2 build 4599

Note: you may need hover the image and then click on the magnifier within imgur to get the file displayed 100%

How about trying my pause idea?

Pause Newsbin and then add the way you have and see if both end up in the download list.

<bla bla >scene 02.wmv.000 yEnc
<bla bla >scene 02.wmv.par2 yEnc

I experimented with a set like this. I paused, added both and I see them both sitting in the download list.

What I'm trying to find out is where is the decision made to require "force download".

Is it happening before the files are added to the download list or are they adding fine and the download itself is failing. The logging tab should tell you too.

My current theory is that the regular RAR file is being failed because of filters and that's why the you have to force it the next time around.

Ehm.. pause..?

Newsbin isn't running, I just double click the .nzb file, Newsbin is launched and then I single click he files that are showing up there.
This is the method I've using for years.

In case of many files I did ctrl-a ctrl-e, but that doesn't work anymore either.

As for filters.. I never go in there. Do you mean this?
pls click on image, for one reason of the other all of a sudden there is no image preview anymore.

There's a button at the top. 4th from the left. Click it before you try to add files to the download list.

See if the files you add end up in the download list. The download list is by default the first tab in the lower section. I assume you can see the download list but maybe that's a poor assumption.

2. d.clicked the nzb
3. selected the files to be downloaded
4, released the pause button

1 file is downloaded

I have the feeling you don't know what the download list is because I've mentioned it a couple times and you don't seem to know what I mean. It's another tab where the files you add to download go. None of your pictures show it. All I'm seeing in the images is the listing for the NZB file.

When you start Newsbin with an NZB, look in the "view" menu and click "Downloading Files". It's the second from the top. It's possible you have Newsbin set to hide it. Normally it's located in the lower section of Newsbin. You might have to drag up the splitter between the top and bottom parts to reveal it.

You know you can set Newsbin to automatically download your NZB's too right? Not sure I'd want to change it now. Not till we figure out what's up.

Your image though seems to show that the files are being sent to the download list because both remain checked.

How about in the main options, advanced, disable "Use Duplicate Detector". Then try some more.

I posted comments, but one way or the other it did not come thru on the forum.
Regretfully so.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, my post that went wrong was a longer story,
we apparently weren't on the same page so to say.

I am not very familiar with names of panels and so on. Newsbin has been and still is working nicely.
Never any complaints. I never actually bothered to study all details - simply because it worked and
it worked perfectly. Compliments for that.
That may be the reason for the confusion.
I am very sorry for that...

Below are screenshots that I hope will be the ones you meant.

If not, let's forget the issue, it isn't worth spending so much time and efforts on.
I will be using bypass filters and it will go fine.

Did you try my idea about turning off the duplicate detector?

The files are being properly added to the download list so, the problem is the RAR file is being filtered out. After you add the RAR the first time and if leaves the download list. See if it's listed in the failed list.

This isn't a complicated issue. Either the files weren't getting into the download list or they were. Now I can see they were.

So the next step is trying to figure out they it doesn't download without "Bypass Filters" becomes the main issue.

- Duplicate file detector.
- Newsbin won't download the same file twice if it's already in the download folder (it checks the first 600K or so of the file).
- Maybe the SPAM filters are preventing the download

Depending on what you download, you might want to disable the spam checking in the options and the duplicate detector. RARS that require passwords for instance are failed unless the correct password is in the password list.

Thanks again.

It was the duplicate file detector indeed.
I disabled it and now things are fine.

Again, many thanks indeed!

p.s.:
btw and up front it is not important, but out of curiosity, right now NB handles .rar files perfectly,
but would it be possible to have NB also handle .zip files the same way?
Noticed that a .zip file is downloaded but not unzipped. I 'manually' unzipped it. No problem.
Maybe I am overlooking some setting somewhere within NB?

I have an item on my todo list to handle ZIP files too. The code is in Newsbin to do it, there's basically one step I'd have to add to do it. Do yes it's possible and it's on my todo list.
