Filtering Certain Types of porn

Hi,
I'm new here. I tried newsgroups a long time ago for a short time, so I'm still a newbie. I did not come to newsgroups for porn, as I could get that other places, but it is nice. Yet, I am unsure how to filter certain types of illegal porn. I always hear about child pornography being deep down in the net and newsgroups. First, well a general question about porn: What is considered illegal besides child porn. I mean some of the teen pictures may have girls that are below 18. This I should probably have asked somewhere else. But anyway, my second one is: Well, how to block child porn if I ever come across it, since I have heard that it can be in newsgroups? Actually 3 questions, I know that I can set Newsbin to not keep an image database. But, when I view a picture, and it shows in thumbnails, does my computer keep that? How else could I know what I am downloading if I don't see the image. Thanks so much. Sorry for so many detailed questions, I'd rather be safe. kk

1 - I think most kiddie porn was removed from usenet many years ago. It might still exist in some of the encrypted groups but you're unlikely to encounter it or be able to use it even if you did download it by accident without the password. The news servers started self cleaning years ago after they got called out for it. I'm not clear about foreign servers but US servers are probably clean.

2 - Different nations have different acceptable ages. I think the rule of thumb is, if it looks too young, even if it isn't, you should purge it.

If you stick with the higher posting groups and stick with downloading from one of the major porn posters, you're unlikely to have any issues. There's no way to filter based on content. Instead find a safe poster and stick to him.

An if you do happen to run across it, there is nothing wrong with you reporting it to the proper authorities...
