System Slowdown

Using 6.73, tested 6.73RC as well, seems to result in serious system slowdown, ie: the mouse jumps and programs 'not responding'. The reason I am certain that Newsbin is the culprit is the instant downloading stops the system returns to normal. I also know that it isn't the system as it a little over two months old with an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 8 Core and all other parts are equivocal to that level so it isn't a function of not enough computer to handle the task, current internet service is 250 Mbps, (well at times it flirts with that speed).

So that said are there any suggestions? AMD issue? 8 Cores? Anything I could try to modify? Reduce the number of simultaneous downloads etc.?

Thanks in advance.

I'd suspect either something with your disk drives or security software like virus scanners or firewalls.

Are you using internal disks or network/USB?

Even at 250 Mbps it shouldn't bog. If you find it's bogging during repair, there are some ways to make it only use a single core during repair.

The problem with considering virus scanner/firewalls is that they remain the same, (Malwarebytes and Zone Alarm), as before so if anything I would expect moving from an I3 to one of the fastest I7s, for at least a couple more weeks! :) , where those programs now run on a solid state drive.

The disk is internal with 2.5TB free.

Well just because the service is rated at 250 Mbps doesn't mean I have ever gotten that speed on Usenet. Fastest has been 22MB. However the problem goes away immediately after downloading. Repairing and unraring go very quickly and all sluggishness stops once the downloading has stopped. It's very odd.

If your old PC didn't bog and it's slower than your current PC what does that mean? I don't own and probably will never own an AMD system so I have no way of testing whether this is AMD specific.

If you really want to test whether the security software is impacting this. I'd uninstall them, reboot and then try some test downloads. I only really trust actual experimental data. There are too many unknowns in this case. Maybe some software on your PC doesn't like the AMD CPU. Odder things have happened.
