Copy filter to watch topic

I have a filter with some 50 or so authors names. Is there an easy way to copy/export these so I don't have to re-type them in a watch topic.

Although the Watch topic has a box for Filter profile, none of my filters show there, so I have to enter the authors surnames one at a time.

Thanks

Is it a search based watch topic or header? Well, i guess either way.

I recommend a wild card search. ".*" for headers or "*" for search and then just select the filter profile in the watch list options.

The way this works is:

Headers->Group Filter(if you set one)->.* (pass everything)->Filter Profile->Watch List.

It pretty much works the same way for search. In this way you can just add new things to the filter profile and it'll get reflected automatically the next time the watch fires.

Hi

thanks for the response. I'm actually doing a Header search.

But as I said before, I have no Filter showing as available in my Watch Topic properties window. The down arrow at the end of the Filter Profile box shows only one entry - "No Profile".

I checked to make sure I hadn't deleted them, and there are 13 Filters set-up in the Filters window. They also seem to work perfectly with normal header searches.

The only thing I have been doing recently is changing the location of the data file after installing a new disk. Could I have corrupted any settings?

That's the one I'm using and I have no issues with applying filter profiles to my watch topics. It sounds pretty odd.

So if you go into the main filters windows you have some number of filters listed but when you hit the drop down in the watch options you have none?

Yes that's correct. Hopefully this image highlights it.

The enet result is that the other day, I started a download of over 5000 (mostly unwanted )books!

Presumably its time to try a re-install?

I'll see if I can get Dex to repro it. In your example, I'd change the filter to

word1|word2|word2

And remove the commas.

How many filters do you have listed in the main filter window? It's not just "Global" is it?

Edit:

As an experiment, how about copying one of your existing filters by using "new Filter" then give it a new name and use an existing filter as a template so, you see

<Filter>
Test1
Test2
Test3

Listed in the main filter window. Then close that window, re-open to ensure the new filters are still there. Then try again in the watch options. When I'm talking about coping, I mean the entire filter so, you might see one or more listed on the left hand side of the filter window. We're trying to increase the number of named filter profiles on the left. We're not adding additional filters to an existing filter profile.

Are you running this on Windows? Dex thinks it might be a rendering problem with the control.

Hi

I am running on Win 10. The watch topics had worked perfectly until recently. I only noticed when one started downloading every file from its header. When I looked, the filters were missing and I couldn't add them back.

It may have been after the last update that I spotted the problem.

I have 13 Filters (inc Global) set up. ( the web link had pictures of both windows)

I have created 4 new ones by using (4 different) templates. All 4 are now visible with the others in the main filter window.

Have made new Watches based on a template, and starting from scratch. None show any filters

If you go into group properties, you can assign a header filter down at the bottom. Is that drop list blank too?

No it is not blank. All the filters appear there.

My current theory is that the way the filters are loaded in the watch list options doesn't use the full path so, it works when the program "run from" is in the same folder as the FiltersDb.db3. Turns out the way they're loaded in the groups options is slightly different.

It'll be fixed in the next beta. It's not clear to me exactly why it works for Dex and I but not you. I guess it depends on how Newsbin is started.

Many thanks.

Just downloaded Beta 9 and the filters now work perfectly on the WAtch lists
