Pathing! Can't figure it out when using NZBs

Hi!

I can't figure this out!

I normally use search to d/l to a regular download folder, and unRAR puts the file in the correct place, which should be for me... the source folder of the RARs.

When I do NZBs, I have an external drive that I send them to, but my workflow is this:

- pause Newsbin
- double click/open NZB(s) usually about 40
- go to the downloading files tab and use right-click "Assign a New Path" to put the d/l destination to the folder/place I'd prefer
- unpause Newsbin

Now, I assumed that when I chose the particular folder, that it would also unRAR into that folder. It sends it to... random folder OR the regular downloads folder. Not what I expected! Makes the files all a mess!

How do I change the unRAR to place the results in the place that it finds them? Help!

You might be better off using an NZB autoload folder. You can set it up in the options. Then you can spec both the download and unrar path one time. Then all the NZB's you copy to that folder will get picked up and downloaded to the paths you set.

You can add modifiers to the path too. So if you set the unrar path to

"X:\UnRAR"

if you made it

"C:\UnRAR\$(NZBFILE)\"

It'll include the NZB Filename in the unrar path.

For best performance, you probably want to download to the local drive, then unrar to the external drive.

Hmm that's very helpful!

I should have also added another twist. I don't always d/l to drives that are there. When I D/L at home it goes to one drive, and when I D/L when I travel, it goes to another drive. Is there a modifier to place the unRAR in the place where the RARs are found?

If you don't set an unrar path, it'll unrar to the same folder as the files downloaded to. You can add "NZBFILE" to the download path and remove the unrar path if you still want to use NZB Filename naming.

Hmm maybe I found a bug, because it doesn't do that in this instance. When I change the path in the download tab, it downloads to the folder selected but is unPARed at the original default location. This only seems to affect NZBs for me.

Changing the download path in the download list doesn't change the fact you have an unrar path set. You'd need to clear it from the options and then that change only applies to files you add after the change. Once it starts downloading you can change the unrar path but that seems like a painful way to do it. That's why I suggested you make the change so it applies before you add things to the download list.

NZB Autoload folder allows you to customize where the downloads go with more control than just using the main options.
