Adding file to download list very slow in 6.2 RC1

Postby Cybercat » Mon Nov 21, 2011 5:11 pm

In previous versions of NB6, if I clicked on a post to add the file to the download list, it would show up in the download list right away and start downloading soon thereafter. With 6.2RC1 however, it can take over a minute for the selected file to show up in the download list. I didn't change any settings between versions.

I'm using a core 2 quad with 4 GB RAM under windows 7.

Any suggestions for a setting I could change or something?

You know, it's all disk IO. Going to disk and getting information about the download, then saving this data to the downloads.db3. I wonder if your disk is simply busy. What happens if your reboot and try again?

I tried a reboot, then started nb, got headers and after it was done, I clicked one file to download. I timed it, and there was a gap of 95 seconds between me clicking the post and the file showing up on the download list.

I wasn't running anything else that could keep the disk busy, and I never had this problem with any of the previous versions either. I don't think it's a problem with my disk.

The actual downloading goes at around 100 Mbit as usual, once it finally notices there's something to download, so it's not a huge problem, but I still think it's very strange.

I have a much less powerful system than you and it takes nowhere near as long on my system.

You might want to consider deleting the download.db3 file from your Newsbin DATA folder to see if that helps (Newsbin must not be running at the time) and let a fresh one be created on the next Newsbin startup. Note that doing so will lose any existing contents of the Download list, Wish List, Failed Files list - so make sure you chose the right moment.

Another quick thing to check is that your auto-download nzb folder is *not* the same as your download folder. That can send IO through the roof.

Tried deleting those db3 files but it didn't speed things up at all. Like I said, it's not a big problem, I was just thinking it might be something known and easy to solve.

I just upgraded to RC2 and whatever the problem was seems to have gone away, as it only takes a second or two now for a file to be added to the download list.
