Version 6.60 Release Candidate 2 Available...

Postby dexter » Wed Jun 24, 2015 1:30 pm

Release Candidate 2 has some more cleanup. Translations are now turned on but need to be updated. If you are fluent in a language in addition to English we would appreciate your help updating the translations. If you are up for it, read our Translations FAQ and contact me for an account on the wiki. If you have previously helped out with translations, your account is still active. Translators receive six months of free Search for their help.

Change Summary:

  • Enabled translations in installer
  • Fixed compaction issue from a specific poster.
  • Fixed issue where Newsbin would stall if you download a bunch of spam with identical subjects.
  • Fixed issue where server color wasn't displayed correctly
  • GOG (Group of Groups), Watch, and Custom lists are now used instead of group names for Searches since results are typically across all groups
  • Made change so when an NZB is loaded the topic is set to the first group found in the NZB.
  • Fixed the ability to disable unRAR for a watch list.
  • Fixed a potential stall issue in the user interface.</li>
  • Made a change to ensure chunks get returned to the pool even if an exception is thrown.

You can see the full list on the Newsbin Beta Page and click on the "Changes in this Version" tab. The download link is there as well

Any questions or issues, either reply to this thread or contact us through the Newsbin Contact Page

You should check your group options. It's probably finding the path in one of them. Easiest ways is to "Open Data Folder" from the options then close Newsbin. Assuming you keep the NBI file in the data folder, you can then edit it with wordpad and check all the download paths.

If you set any paths in the watch lists, they're getting picked and used now.

Couldn't find any. My default dl path is C:\Binaries\ and it's set also in the .nbi file. I don't use watch list, i don't use header dl, I use only NZBs.

Is it possible that I send you my .nbi file ?

Thanks

If you say it's not in there, there's no point to me looking at it.

Do you have an NZB Download path set in the options?

I think I see a problem. I cleared my NZB download path and now the download path in the download list isn't showing anything. For now, set an NZB Download path and that should work till I can fix this.

Yes, it's set as C:\Binaries\$(GROUP)\ but it doesn't work, I switched back to RC1 until fixed.

Is it possible to cancel nzb filename prefix adding in the next release ?

Thanks

It's not as clear cut as I thought...

If you want to email me the NBI File that would be good. I realized that Newsbin automatically assigns an NZB path based on the current download path if the NZB Path is blank. There is a problem if you clear the NZB path and then try to download but you're not doing that.

When I save changes in v6.60RC1_B4129 using 'Save Configuration As' and naming NB660RC2_B4137.nbi, I get a blank config result. I can only bring RC2 back by opening with previous RC1_B4129 .nbi. In all my upgrades this has never been an issue. Do I need to downgrade or rebuild from scratch?

It's likely one of those "nobody but you uses it" things and it silently got broken.

You know Newsbin already maintains backups of the configuration files right? You can make a copy of the file from explorer too.

I'll check it out. Thanks.

I can't even download RC2. Errors out saying the source file could not be read and to contact the server administrator. Tried on 3 machines with multiple browsers. Right-click/save as also fails.

Also, is there no hope of a Help/Check for update option on the menu?

I upgraded to RC2 last night and I see that a problem kicked in right away. Any file that I specified a folder for downloaded correctly. All others ended up in a strange place.
Typical download path looks like this:
C:\NewsBinPro\Users\someuser\AppData\Local\Newsbin\spool_v6\name.of.a.group\Storage.db3,somenumber
This includes complete binary files, not just parts.
Real mess.
The download paths in the Options/Set Up are C:\NewsBinPro\$(GROUP)\ for both Main and NZB files. UnRAR folder is not configured, oddly. I thought I had set that for a special folder.

I left the system alone to see if it would settle down, and it did, mysteriously.
After I removed all the entries in the download queue with the wrong path, all newer ones are correct.
Nothing else was changed. Cosmic rays, I guess.
Sorry for any inconvenience, JL

Was it files that were already in the download list that were screwed up?

You description was good. It pointed me right to where the problem is. In the Downloads DB, I changed the meaning of a field and didn't consider the impact on existing downloads. You should be good to go now.

I need to figure out how to work around this.

Re: Version 6.60 Release Candidate 2 Available...

Postby Bismark » Mon Jun 29, 2015 10:14 pm

I have been gone for two weeks. Came back, downloaded headers and then proceeded to get rid of 75% of them as they were Poster or subject rejected. closed NB and reopened it. all the 30,000 posts I deleted are back. I also compressed the NG's and same result. Is there some database or file I need to delete or something? This seems to happen when there are large number of posts, not sure but about 20,000 or more. I am using RC2. Saw it in previous versions too.

Any help would be welcomed.

I wonder if you're exiting before it's done? The more headers you have, the longer it takes. I'll try some big deletes.

After you get that message no deletes will work anymore. Wonder if you have a bad group or something?

On my machine, deleting 23,000 posts took about 5 seconds.

At this point I'm assuming you're getting that crash notice and then no deleting from that point forward will work.

The message came about 15 minutes after I last interacted with NB. Deleting seems to be very fast. I too have deleted 15000 posts in a few seconds. The issue is they come back the next time I open the group or multi group.

When I say 5 seconds. I mean I watched them get deleted from the DB. Not just disappear from the screen.

I was able to delete them by deleting about 6000 at a time. I have seen this problem for a few months. Is there any file I should delete or other action I could take?

I have no idea why you can only do 6000 and I can do 20,000 with no issue. It's almost like you're running out of RAM.

Not sure if 6000 is the turning point. I think that about 35000 caused it for me from one poster.

Right click "Delete all posts by poster" doesn't actually consume any ram to speak of. Is that how you're deleting or are you selecting them all and deleting?

Yes, That is what I used and they kept coming back. I also deleted them by select and they came back. Only when I deleted them in smaller batches, did they go away.

I'm also getting this error now on 6.60RC4 Build 4152. In my case, I had a feeling it's related to header processing from \Data\Import as I noticed today that there is a backlog of headers from yesterday around 1pm. Turned on ProcessMonitor, filtered for newsbinpro.exe, and found the culprit header set and moved it out. Haven't looked to see what is wrong with the file(s) yet, but it would be nice for a more graceful handling, this pretty much stops new headers from importing further until you've figured it out.

For the record, I can't tell if it's the related group db3 with some sort of corruption or the header txt files with the problem..
