Version 6.72 Release Candidate 1

You did not miss anything, there is no beta version of 6.72. There were a number of small but easy to fix issues in 6.71 that we did not think warranted a complete beta cycle. We are trying to get 6.7x working well enough to leave it alone for awhile so Quade can concentrate on the next evolution of Newsbin.

We do need a broader audience to run 6.72 to make sure we didn't introduce any new issues. Here is a list of issues that have been addressed since the final 6.71 release:

  • Fixed the "Send PARS to Wish List" feature.
  • Made change to stop retrying download of posts that are giving all error number 430. Sign that it was removed due to a DMCA takedown request.
  • Fixed issue where files that already exist on disk and are pulled in from a partial download were not getting deleted when cleanup happens.
  • Made change where retries will not be attempted if there are no assembled files yet.
  • Fixed issue where files were assembling prematurely. Happens even with no pars.
  • Fixed issue where Servers tab would wrap at 4 TB.
  • Removed extra columns from servers tab that weren't hooked up.
  • Fixed issue when using the Update icon, was downloading headers from all groups in the groups list, not just enabled groups.
  • Discovered a key exchange protocol for SSL that we weren't supporting. It is now supported.
  • Fixed issue where Newsbin can hang downloading small rar files.

The download link is on the Newsbin Beta Page. Any questions, comments, or bug reports can be made by replying to this thread or by using the Technical Support Contact Form.

Using 6.72 build 4776 and the 'Download the Latest Group Updates' icon seems broke as nothing happens when I click it? If I right click on a group and click 'Download Latest Headers' it works.

Are there check marks on the groups? The main "update headers" button won't update groups that aren't checked.

It will update groups you manually select.

Now i'm confused!

Before I just loaded NB, right clicked a group and selected 'Show Posts' then clicked the blue icon and NB downloaded the latest headers for that group, none of my groups have any check marks on them! So I've just checked a group, did a 'show posts' and clicked the icon and now it downloads the headers, so that behaviour has now changed as all previous builds of 6.xx I didn't have to do that?

1 - The checks activate the groups for header download when using the main "download all header" button on the toolbar and when double clicking a group of groups. That's what I thought you were talking about.

2 - Doubleclicking a group checked or not will make it download headers and load the group.

3 - Double-clicking is the same as "Load" and "Update". It does both at the same time.

4 - You probably want the groups like checked. You don't want to double-click on the check marks when loading and updating headers

No, I never double click any groups to download headers, I just used to click the blue icon on the toolbar after opening a group and showing the posts in it!

Just re-installed the last version I used, 6.71RC2 b4740, opened a group in the Groups List using right-click > Show Posts and clicking the blue icon on the toolbar is downloading headers whether the group is checked or not. In the current build, 6.72 b4776, opening a group and showing the posts then clicking the blue icon on the toolbar now ignores header downloads unless the group is checked!

It was fixed in build 4775. Here is the line from the release notes:

Version 6.72 Build 4775 August 11, 2016
- Fixed issue when using the Update icon, was downloading headers from all groups in the groups list, not just enabled groups.

So it sounds like you got used to how a broken function worked. We were receiving complaints from users who have lots of groups and choose to only have a subset of them update when they hit the update icon. Placing a checkmark next to the group tells Newsbin to perform a header update on that group when the update button is pressed. The terminology is to "subscribe" to the group. If you put checkmark to the left of each group you want to have updated, it'll work as you want.

But I don't see that happening?

Went back to 6.71RC2 b4740 to test. I have a GOG with 13 groups in it, if I right click a group and click 'Download Latest Headers' NB just downloads headers for that group I've right-clicked on. If I right click a group and select 'Show Posts' the group opens and I see the blue 'update' icon for that group, if I click it then only that groups headers get downloaded, not all 13 groups in the GOG. Non of my groups are 'checked' and I can open them and update them all individually using the update icon without every group updating all at once.

We are talking about the blue icon that looks like a lightning bolt to the left of a groups search box?

Why are you resistant to checking them then? They should all be checked unless you specifically want to disable them. Most of mine are checked.

Despite MOTD on startup being unticked I get informed about 6.72 RC 1 every single time I start newsbin and the downloads obviously don't start until I've clicked it, isn't 6.72 build 4776 RC1? So why keep telling me about it?? :)

Edit: Ignore me found the solution in the other thread thanks!

I have never seem this (maybe the NZB is deleted off the server?)

Download Description
Test Download: <file name>

Size
Completion: 100% 1 of 1

But the file never D/Ls - it stays hung up in Download Queue.

You either need to change the "test" to a real download or remove it and re-add it as a download.

You're using 6.72?

How was a test created and how do I convert it to a real d/l?

Yes 6.72 Bld: 4776

Ah I think I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were using "test download" but I guess you aren't.

I'd look in the logging tab and see if you see any error. Does this set of files have PARs? Do you see the par counts counting up?

You might see this if the unrar path is set to a disk that isn't there any more (or if the drive letter changes).

I see what you mean. I accidentally hit Test D/L instead of By-Pass Filters.

thanks

You can turn a test into a download with a "Retry Download" I believe from the right click menu.

I have a very high resolution screen, 3840 x 2160. It appears that NB does not completely support screens with this resolution as whenever I open a newsgroup tab for the first time, the files column does not restore to the size it was when closed, but is very narrow. Not a big issue, but it should be fixed some time.

Yes I have the same issue. The column sizing always reverts back when I open any groups. It's a little frustrating.

I can probably fix the column resizing problem but the gui will have to be replaced to actually make it scale properly. Can't you set some settings in the short cut to make it work better on high DPI screens?
