UI request - tell when done searching

Postby mbourgon » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:58 pm

Needs a way to acknowledge it's done. On my desktop I hear the hard drive stop. Even just a "done searching" would be helpful

Well, the progress bar goes away when it's done.

I'll think about your request.

Sorry, sir, this was for the NBRemote app. And hey, never put 2 & 2 together on the desktop app - more fool me. :)

I'll be more careful about what forum I'm in next time.

All good, and didn't mean to imply otherwise. Been using and loving the app for years - but I'm one of "those users", the ones who want to make sure it works Just Right, the ones who use every single option, critique every little thing - I want it to be AWESOME. And hey, I've found at least one impressive bug (to me at least) and had it crash twice. I'm a Power User, baby! :D

I'm not clear at what search you are referring to, Internet search or groups search? It is also unclear what you mean by "done searching"?

Quade: the iOS app.

Jonny: groups search. I open the group (ABM, in this specific case), and while it loads the past 14 days (as per the filter) nothing shows. If I type in something, it sits there with "Number of sets: 0" (or, if it's loaded the NG's posts already, "Number of sets: 4293") for a while, before eventually showing the results of the search. But it just sits there, with no sign it's doing anything.

When you select the group I issue the command to load the group. While Newsbin is busy loading the group there is no feedback in NBRemote. When Newsbin is done I load the table view, which is a visual clue to that the loading is done. I guess what you want is some other indication in case the loading rendered zero results?

Correct - currently, there's no difference between a search that returns no results, and a search that will eventually turn up something, but hasn't yet finished.

In the latest beta, it displays Loading in the table footer during load. I don't think it's clear enuogh so I might put in a spinner instead.

Just played with the new version. I like the "loading" spinner - maddening when you have a lot of stuff, but overall GREATLY appreciated. This is...very nice.
