I am not sure that anyone is developing an Android app? Note that he current iOS app was done by a 3rd party - not the Newsbin team.

this was one of the MOD in Sept and was hoping there was some development.

Version 6.10 Released!

We have released Newsbin Version 6.10. This version includes RAR processing improvements over 6.00 as well as some cosmetic changes and bug fixes.

This version also has full Newsbin Remote Control support for future applications. Newsbin Remote for iPhone/iPad is currently well into beta testing and we plan to start a version for Android soon. There is also a C# open source project in its infancy available on SourceForge as an example of how to use the interface.

Well, itimpi was in the room when that was discussed. 'Plan' and 'soon' are iffy terms. :)

ATM, there's nothing currently in active development by the Newsbin guys AFAIK, doesn't mean there won't be at some point. Also, who knows who's working on what out there? I do recall seeing someone asking questions about android development, they may be beavering away on it now, for all we know.

I'm holding out for the next release of the Google NDK. I'm hoping it has an upgraded compiler that supports the latest C++ spec. Until then I've shelved any android devel.

thats a shame, a kind of work around is to have remote access app, but they just dont seem to be that good.
an android app would be cool seen as there is an IOS app and theres almost double the amount of android users compared to IOS!

when you say the next Google NDK Quade is that icecream sandwitch we need to wait for?

Newsbin is written in C++ so, a remote control app would be mostly C++. The NDK is a way to run C++ under android. The current NDK doesn't support the latest C++ spec which I use all over Newsbin's code.

I could work around this if I had to. Dex is bugging me to do Android too.

I have been working on an Android app for a little while now. I have most of the remote protocol implemented, the UI layout defined, and design mostly firmed up. I am now writing the background service as well as implementing the UI features. Probably be a little while before I am ready for a beta but I hope to soon. It will support Android 2.x and higher phones and tablets. I am testing on 2.3 phone and 4.0 phone and tablet.

Just a heads up. I've been playing with this too and have a Android X86 image I use under VMWare. It makes testing 100 times faster than using the emulator.

Link near the bottom is the most current version. Debugging this way is nearly as fast as debugging a native windows app.
