moving to a new computer and want to take Newsbin with me

Postby dane » Fri Mar 24, 2017 2:58 pm

Hi Guys

I'm moving from a 32 bit computer to a 64 bit computer and want to take my current newsbin configuration with me: the data, the groups, etc. I know there's a 64 bit version in the installer, but what files and folders do I need to make sure I take and put in the right place? Are there other things I need to know? or should I just try to recreate everything from scratch?

Thanks in advance,
DaDane

Options
Settings
Open Data Folder

Copy all files and folders located there and put them into your Data Folder of your new install on the new Computer and you should be good to go.

You may also want to copy the Newsbin .nbi file as that has the majority of your settings (e.g. Servers, groups etc). The location of that file can be anywhere on your system (although many people put it in the Newsbin data folder).

Thanks. Yes, I copied the .nbi file, but as you say, had addresses in it which were all over my system - different drives, different directories, etc. Edited the .nbi file which straightened most of that out.

I don't keep any history in my groups, so that's no problem, but I do keep headers I haven't downloaded yet in my custom lists, and traces of files I have downloaded in my watch lists. Both my custom lists, and my watch lists show up in my group listings, but they're all blank. I've obviously missed something in the transfer.

Where is this information located and how is it recognized by newsbin?

Thanks in advance for the help,

The various lists are all in the Newsbin data folder.

Hi itimpi and thanks for the response.

I've copied the entire newbin folder - it contains all of my groups and the specific listings in my watchlist group, but there are no headers within these listings. I never keep headers in my groups, but there should be headers in my watchlists. Same is true for my custom lists - the lists exist, but they are empty.

I didn't find an entry in the .nbi file that would direct the software to the headers for these lists. Is there one, or is there possibly a folder that's usually in the newsbin directory that is flung somewhere else on my system?

I'd appreciate anyone who can pitch in here and help solve this problem for me.
Thanks,
DaDane
