Which Newsbin version for gigabit Internet?

Postby wtd03 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 9:58 am

I did a speed test and I am getting 930mbps currently download at the moment. My provider is giganews platinum.

In newsbin 5.55(the most stable one for me) I am only getting 145mbps download on average. How are you able step by step to get close to your top speed on newsbin?

First thing I'd do is remove all your security software(the non-Microsoft stuff, the MS stuff is OK, at least temporarily), reboot, then do some downloads.
- Security software is typically the worst culprit when it comes to slow downloads.

Second, I might consider using Usenetserver instead of Giga. At least I'd try it.
- I get 125 Mbps to Usenetserver with 3 connections. That's the max speed of my connection.

Third, I'd try 6.80 too and see if it's faster than 5.X

What kind of PC do you have? 930 Mbps is damn fast and you need a good PC to take advantage of it. Hopefully your PC and Network are up to it.

OK i have disabled all firewalls and antivirus.

I have gotten the trial of usenet server

I have downloaded the latest build of newsbin

Now my speed jumps as high as 320 Mbps but settles around 240Mbps. UsenetServer is faster downloading than Giganews but still nowhere near the 930Mbps that speedtest gives me

As I was trying to point out everything has to be lined up to get those speeds. Really it's only achievable with multiple hundred meg files too. For small files the overhead is too high.

You might want to run usenetserver and giganews simultaneously with 10 connections each and see how fast it is.
