Had to reinstall PC. Hov to load NBP configuration file?

Hello.
Since the PC got very shaky I decided to install everything a new.
I have backups from everything.
So I did install Win7 64Bit on a clean SSD and am now in the process to install NBP.
Well in NBP there is an option to save the configuration and I did that.
But how/where to load the config file so I do not have to set everything again?

The installer did find that Config, but just renamed it.

Exit Newsbin then double-clicking the NBI should start Newsbin with this NBI. You could also right click and "Open With" then pick Newsbin. You might want to look in the NBI with wordpad and make sure all the paths are still valid.

Hello.

That worked ... at first.
All the Paths in the saved NBI are still valid (since they point to other and not changed drives), but NBP does not use them when started afterwards...

to Explaination:
I saved the NBP Configuration in a file in F:\NBIN-PARTS\.
Like I said I did clean my C: SSD completely, then installed Win7, then Drivers and NBP.
All the other Drives (D: E: F: G: ...) stayed untouched and have tha same Driveletters they had before.
C:\Program Files\Newbin now has the NBP programm and around 130GB free space
D:\N\ is the 2TB SSD where the downloaded and completed files should go and has around 1,8TB free space.
F:\NBIN-PARTS\ is a 1 TB SSD where the chunks.spool and *.DB3 Should go and has around 600GB free space.

Then I started NBP and noticed no option to load an previously saved NBI.
I exited NBP directly and asked here in the forum.
Like you said I did start by clicking on the saved NBI and yes everything worked. All the files went to the right directories (on D: and F:). Great!
After this small testrun I exited NBP again to update my Win7.
I rebootet my PC, and restarted NBP (not with clicking the old saved NBI file). I saw, that it showed my preferred Newsgroups and thought it still did have all the configurations from the previously saved and loaded NBI and I even thought it would use the pathes from that saved NBI.
I did open a NZB File, marked all Parts in it and started to download. Then I went to sleep.

O was I wrong to asume NBP would use the NBI configuration from the saved file.

This morning I looked and NBP did flood my C:\Users\<name>\Documents\newsbin until C: was full.

How to load the saved NBI in NBP so that it works everytime with ALL this saved configurations/paths?
Would it be to much, if NBP has a 'save configuration' Option to also have a 'load configuration' option, so it loads this configuration and from then on uses the once loaded configuration without reverting back to default install settings?

After you updated Win7 and rebooted your machine, did you use the same user account as when you had Newsbin running the way you wanted? It sounds like either that happened or the windows update somehow rolled back the entry Newsbin stores in the Windows registry to track the last configuration file used. I suggest you launch Newsbin by double-clicking on your preferred configuration file, go into Options -> Settings to ensure it has the download folders you want, then close Newsbin and launch from the shortcut and make sure it is still the same. If it reverts again after launching from the shortcut, make sure you are not specifying the configuration file on the command line from the shortcut. We've seen people configure this way and forget they did it. If that's not it I have a couple more troubleshooting steps to suggest.

How to load the saved NBI in NBP so that it works everytime with ALL this saved configurations/paths?

I did mention you need to check your paths.

Looks to me like you need to figure out what's being stored in your C drive. If it's headers waiting to import, the space will eventually be free'd up. If it's chunk files, it suggests that there's something up with the download path so the chunks can't be turned into files.

It doesn't sound like there's a problem with the imported NBI. It sounds more like some sort of pathing problem.

I only have one account on that PC and so yes, it was always the same account.

dexter wrote:I suggest you launch Newsbin by double-clicking on your preferred configuration file, go into Options -> Settings to ensure it has the download folders you want, then close Newsbin and launch from the shortcut and make sure it is still the same.

Done. And yes, now the paths look the same.

I am just using the shortcut on the desktop the NBP Installer created.
It only starts the exe: "C:\Program Files\Newsbin\NewsbinPro64.exe"

Thank you for your help.
It looks like it will work like I want it again.
If not I will post here.

Hello Quade.

Quade wrote:I did mention you need to check your paths.

You wrote: You might want to look in the NBI with wordpad and make sure all the paths are still valid.
And the Paths in the NBI are like I want them.
After i did load the old saved NBI, I did make some NZB downloads and they all went in the right Direktory on D:.
And like I wrote:
- then I exited NBP,
- let Windows make some Updates,
- rebootet and startet NBP with the exe.
- loaded an NZB, specified all Filed to be downloaded
- and went to sleep.
And NBP did then download them to a directory on C: where Windows normally stores the Documents.

Quade wrote:Looks to me like you need to figure out what's being stored in your C drive.

NBP did store my wanted files on C: and flooded the Drive.
That were the Files I did want to get with the NZB.
But thjey should not be stored on C: (with not much space). They shuld go to D:\N\ like I had in the old saved NBI File.
BTW Now it dows it again, since I did again lopad the old saved NBI, controlled the settings, then exited NBP and reloaded NBP just with the EXE.
So at the moment it works like I want it to do.

Quade wrote:If it's headers waiting to import, the space will eventually be free'd up. If it's chunk files, it suggests that there's something up with the download path so the chunks can't be turned into files.

It were the completed Files I wanted.
Not the chunks and not cachefiles.

But like I said. Now it seems to work like I want.
So I thank you!

Partial files, "chunks" get stored to the data folder in the chunks folder. That means if the data folder is on the C drive, partial files will get stored to the C drive. Header downloads go to the data folder drive too.

My guess is that the data folder is on the C drive and that you had some partial downloads there. You could move the data folder to a larger drive if that's the case.

Yes. Amd that Folder ist on F: (1TB SSD) and it worked fine.

Quade wrote:That means if the data folder is on the C drive, partial files will get stored to the C drive.

Like I said. When NBP flooded my C: Drive it wrote the completed files, not the chunks in my Documents Directory. The Chunks were no Problem.

Quade wrote:Header downloads go to the data folder drive too.

If you mean the *.db3 files and so on, they all went to F:\NBIN-PARTS. That is correct.

Quade wrote:My guess is that the data folder is on the C drive and that you had some partial downloads there. You could move the data folder to a larger drive if that's the case.

Like I said:
C: has only the OS (win7) and NBP. No Datafolder for NBP, No chunks Folder for NBP and no Headerfolder for NBP.
The Chunks, db3 and so on, go to F:\NBIN-PARTS\ (1TB SSD) and the completely downloaded Files go to D:\N\ (2TB SSD).
And the loaded old NBI File had that correct paths in it.

But like I said. Now it works like I want.
