ADSL

Postby zorelina » Wed Feb 03, 2010 6:51 am

Can you connect to a remote database using a ADSL connection? I am trying to connect to a remote database using ADSL connection line since I already has one. But the technician says I cannot do this and I need to have a DSL connection. Is this true? If I am using DSL do I need to take off my computer from my network and set it up with a matching IP address to them.

I cannot think of a fundamental reason why DSL is required rather than ADSL.

The most likely reason is that the the way the database access has been set up requires you to have a fixed IP address and ADSL normally dynamically assigns one on connection. However there should be ways around that.

Many people use ADSL to connect to the news servers so, it sounds like the technician was wrong. Look in the logging/status tab for error messages.

I assumed that because the talk was about a "remote database" that it was in fact nothing to do with Giganews and the post was in the wrong section. I could easily be wrong though :?

I assumed "remote database" was a foreigners attempt at talking about a news server. Since a news server is a remote database...sort of.

Well itimpi, I also think the same as you think. I can say that it was not connected to Giganews. Its only your personal problem with ADSL. And also can say that it may be your database problem. You ave to setting all of them regarding to it.
