Things that have changed - things I would like back.

Postby MrBrad92122 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 5:24 pm

v6 beta:

I like to open a bunch of post lists in tabs.
"Show all Posts" used to open the post list as a background tab. Now it switches to that tab and I have to go back to the Groups list to open the next one.

Pars waiting to be downloaded to correct a post used to be in a separate tab than download.
Now the pars are in the download tab and "autoclose when finished" never happens.

There used to be a "Close all Post lists" command.

After Ctrl-Tabbing to a new post list a down arrow used to take you to the first post. Now it does nothing.
Don't you think that DbNull and Null will be the paradoxes that someday tear the fabric of the universe apart?

It is nothing - but it is something.

It has no value - but it is not empty.

It's changed now, obviously, everything is compacted as much as possible so instead of fiddling between tabs, it's all in one. I'm assuming you're running the latest, v9? There still are some scenarios where things won't autoclear out, the intention is that eventually only things that need your attention won't clear. It's certainly possible you've hit on something that should have cleared, though, being a beta. For me, the vast majority of what I download just...downloads and clears out. Some scenarios, like a few rars with no pars, need intervention. It's undecided at this point how that will behave in the final. Me personally, I don't like stuff left in download, ever, unless something is literally stuck, waiting on more chunks(something still being uploaded, for example). Some like it left there, it tells them something needs doing, and they can do it right from Newsbin. Time will tell how that works out.

The Close All Post tabs has been mentioned, it's going to get looked at.

This is how I work also. Would it be possible to maintain Group list focus when you do a Show (all) Posts but switch focus to the post list when doubleclicked? Maybe this would satisfy both methods of working. Also could we have the shortcut Show Posts (Ctrl-L) back for keyboard use?

Don't know if it's possible. I'll have to look into it.

I have my groups list tied to the left border, set to autohide. One thing I noticed is that it stays opened and focused if I right click "Show posts". So, that's something you can try if you want.

Quade,
What you suggested works, but then I am in a 3 pane environment, not the 2 that I usually use. Of course I can adjust and make it work.

DThor,
I am using B9 build 899 and Ctrl L doesn't work for me. The shortcuts are not listed on the right click menus either.

Keep in mind you can assign it. It's possible I did that, or some bizarre combination of beta's being installed caused it my end. I know the shortcut doesn't show up in the GUI, but try assigning it and see if it works.

But yeah, by release all this stuff will have been cleaned up.

Try removing workspace.xml and see if ctrl-L starts working (quit newsbin before touching the file.)

Note that this will lose your window setup, so you might want to rename, not remove, the file, if it turns out not to help.

Removing workspace.xml fixed the Ctrl-L issue, thanks guys. DThor, I do see where I can assign commands and it is already assigned. The three pane view with Groups on the left does allow me to keep viewing groups. This works great for right clicking and show latest, but in using the keyboard, the focus is changed to the 2nd pane with post list and while ctrl-tab alllows me to focus back on groups (after selecting the right tab), I still seem to have to use the mouse to get back to the group highlighted to continue showing more posts.
