Win 10 Pro Unable to Connect to bews server

Postby tbutka » Sun Feb 26, 2017 1:38 am

Just got a new Windows 10 Pro box (Dell 3420, 16Gb RAM, 1Tb HD). Did a clean install using the NewsBin defaults (NB 6.72), and I get a "Giganews Unable to Connect to news server" error message. I've been using Giganews for years & my login information hasn't changed.

Is there something that Windows Defender does? Can I set up an exception? Internet connection is TWC/Spectrum 100Mbps which works well with my other programs. Help or tips would be appreciated.

Is defender the only security software you use?

Are there any other error messages?

Typically the MS firewall doesn't get in the way of Newsbin. Other security software can easily block it off the internet though. What did you enter for the address?

Yes I only use Defender. Turns out to be a newbie error. I has the server as "news-giganews.com" instead of "news.giganews.com". Thanks for the quick reply, it made me relook at the settings. :)
