export list of subscribed newsgroups

Postby Stefan1971HH » Sat Mar 16, 2024 4:34 am

Hi,
is it possible to do so and import the list after a new Windows/Newbin installation?
I mean *only* the list. I don't want to backup the full Data folder because something
seems corrupted.
Log files list many cases like
Code: Links not allowed for unregistered users
ERROR CFileIO::WriteError - Failed to Write Data

or
Code: Links not allowed for unregistered users
ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 10File

thanks

Easiest way is to make a copy of the current .nbi file in another folder/disc. After you have done a new install of NBPro - shut it down and then double click on the copy of the old .nbi file and NBPro will start with all your old configuration and without the old Data folders.

HTH.

If everything gives you these errors, it suggests you have permissions problems. Like Newsbin is trying to write to folders it's not allowed to write to.

and then double click on the copy of the old .nbi file and NBPro will start with all your old configuration and without the old Data folders.

I agree with this but before you start again with this NBI, you have to edit it with wordpad to make sure any paths inside the NBI point to folders you can write too. If you don't do that, you might run unto exactly the same issue.

You could right click Newsbin and select "Run as Administrator" and see if the problem goes away. If it does, it means I'm probably right about the permissions problem.

Thanks, but wouldn't that keep more data than I want, like LastAccess and Counters?
I'd like to do a "clean" reinstallation and than just import the preserved ng list, so that Newsbin
behaves as if no headers had been downloaded yet.

[GROUPS]
a2000.erotica.binaries
....

If you look in the old NBI, you'll find a section with a list of group names in it. If you copy that, open the NBI in the new install, then paste just this list into the NBI (with Newsbin not running). Then start Newsbin, they should all show up in "Unsorted".
