Help with filters please

Postby gsloman » Sat Apr 17, 2021 5:58 am

I've been trying to block headers with continuous strings of characters which are spam - I've tried a filter [0-9a-z]{24} which I've found suggested on a forum here and I've also set to filter out any subject containing things like [1/2], [2/3] etc etc all the way to [5/5] - I've also set to reject any subject containing / ...... but even though I've deleted all posts so I can start header downloads again, whenever I download headers I still get all this garbage and it's just highlighted in red and flagged as 'subject reject' - I though filters would stop the download of any headers so they wouldn't show? Isn't that what should happen rather than just highlighting the header in red?

Go to Options - highlight "Global" in the filter list - choose "reject if, subject contains, then type in [0-9a-z]{24} - then click on add. That filter is now in the Global filter.

Go to the "Groups List" tab and right click on whichever group you want to apply the Global filter to - go to properties on the bottom of the drop down list and click on it. Enable the filter box and make the filter Global.

When you select the group and open its tab you can then click on the radio button for filters and all the crap will be filtered out and you can browse through the list and do what you want with the posts. You can then click on the radio button again and all the crap re-appears and you can highlight them all and use shift/delete to get rid of them.

If you are using the Search tab - when you use the global filter option all the crap disappears but when you go back to no filter the crap does not reappear.

Thank you. I didn't realise I had to click the radio button.

If you open up a group tab, there should be a small green coloured "Power" button an the same toolbar as the filter drop down boxes. If you hover your cursor over the button you should get an information box that says ' enable/disable filters '

It all depends how you have NBPro GUI set up as to where the different objects are. Just hover the cursor over each option to get an info box about it to appear.

I've used the spam filter and noticed a hesitation in scrolling, so put the filter in the search on the left side and deleted the spam. Now the scrolling doesn't have to wade through that junk. I'm using 6.90B10: 00 F8 87 1D 1A 18

Here is the filter:

[a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9][a-z0-9]

I use a similar filter. You can re-write this filter more simply with:

"[0-9a-z]{20}"

With means "match 20 chars in the group 0-9 and a-z"

You can also say "{20,24} Which means "match at least 20 and up to 24"

I'm seeing the same as Ronbyram. It seems now instead of just numbers and letters, they are using hyphens,
underscores, and commas. And maybe more.
