Newsbin Crashes Often

Newsbin is now crashing pretty regularly, it runs for 10-18 hours and then bam. Sometimes it's more often, I have no idea what it's unhappy about.

The program is usually idle, with header downloads every 90 minutes.

Unfortunately, I don't always notice right away since the icon stays in the notification area until I try to mouse over it.

OS: Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19044.2006)
Newsbin Pro 6.90 Build 5524.

How do you download primarily?

The bulk of downloading is done with sabnzbd and nzbget.

I use newsbin to create .nzbs from posts (or the Newsbin Search result) and for things that the other applications have missed.

Most of the crashes are occurring when I'm not even actively using Newsbin at all.

This may not be the same issue I had, but I had to disable all startup programs.
You can do that on Windows through task manager startup tab.
Then reboot and see if it works. If it does, then it's one of the programs you have starting up conflicting, which is what I had.
You will also then have to enable one program at a time to find the problem. Each time rebooting.
If it still does not work, then it won't hurt to download the newest installation file again and just install again. It will just act like it's doing an upgrade and see if that works.
Possibly antivirus or other corrupted a file, or also can try to scan disks for errors and do sfc/scannow in a cmd window as Admin.

If none of that works, then let Quade see what, if anything, can be done.

I leave it running for days at a time auto-downloading my autodownload groups.

Might be worth clearing out the DownloadsV2.db3 files and maybe "DownloadMarker.db3". See if that changes anything.

I have the same error when anything is added to the download list.

How do "clear out" the db3 files? If I remove )or rename) the download database, Newsbin throws an error:

Code: Select all
[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 11File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3
[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 11File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3
[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 21File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3

[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 11File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3

[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 11File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3
[01/12 17:05:43]  ERROR Sqlite Error : Reports Unrecoverable error 21File: C:\Users\scott\AppData\Local\Newsbin\DownloadsV2.db3

Is there a GUI option to reset the database or do I need to do this in SQL?

Thanks for some guidance. I've been a NB user for many years and have never had this particular issue.

Scott

UPDATE:

Hi Quade,

Some posts will process, all small (<40MB). Larger posts added to the download list crash Newsbin instantly with no logged message (but logged as noted above in Windows). As far as which posts, which group, or which server (I use two)--none are linked to the crash, just the size (as far as I can tell).

Pausing the problematic downloads prevents a crash. Moving the larger posts or adding them to the Wish List prevents a crash.

I reinstalled using the existing config/DB files. Same crashes.

Hope that helps narrow it down.

In the options select "Open Data Folder".

Then exit Newsbin.

In the newly opened window, you can find "DownloadsV2.db3". Delete it. Newsbin will regenerate it when you restart. You might find several files names "DownloadsV2. Delete them all.

It's pretty rare for these files to become corrupted. If it happens alot, I'd wonder if you have a hardware issue.

This will delete the Download, Failed, Wish, and Files list. It won't impact any already downloaded files.

Thanks, that worked.

I'll look for a hardware issue. I use an SSD as a download drive and perhaps it's nearing EOL since it gets hammered pretty hard between downloads, UnRAR, and moving files elsewhere.

Knock on wood, I've never had a Samsung drive fail. They're the only ones I use.
