How do I change the location of the NEWSBIN folder (Windows)

Postby MarvinGardens » Sat Oct 03, 2026 1:03 pm

I am moving to a new PC. When I installed NEWSBIN it put all its configuration stuff in %APPDATA%\Newsbin. I want to put that folder on another drive. I know it’s possible because on my current system it’s in a folder on my D drive. Unfortunately I did this years ago and I forgot what I did

Do I need a mklink? Or a registry hack?

I am not referring to the data folder where Newsbin stores downloaded files. I am referring to the folder where Newsbin.nbi lives.

1 - Run Newsbin with the default configuration. Do a "File/Save As" and save the configuration file to the new folder you want to use.

2 - Edit the new configuration file you just saved with "WordPad" then change the data folder to the folder the configuration file was saved to.

3 - Exit the editor then double-click the new configuration file. This should start Newsbin and set the configuration file and data folder to the new folder.

4 - To verify, exit and restart Newsbin normally. You can do a "file save as" to see the current folder. Just cancel the save.

5 - In the options you can also select "Open Data Folder" to confirm it's using the new data folder.
