Filters - Confused

Postby tehbaron » Thu Feb 17, 2022 6:07 pm

Still a little confused by the Filter Options under 'Group Properties'

The 3rd Option "Use Profile" Checkbox

Does this option prevent headers being added to the database ?

The Header Filter at the bottom of the page

Does this option filter headers that have already been added to the database ?

The filter at the top is a display filter. The filter at the bottom can filter your header downloads so, only a limited amount make it into the header DB.

There's a warning right below about filtering headers.

I'll throw some tests at 6.90 to validate what I just told you.

Thank you - I had them the wrong way round !

I have the following from another post - are there any other expressions that you currently recommend ?

"(bob|jane).*[<](bob|jane)[@].*(home|usenet)"

"[0-9a-f]{14}[.][0-9a-f]{30}[.][0-9a-f]{8}"
"^[A-F0-9]{10,200}\s+$"
"^[A-Z0-9]{10,200}[.][A-Z0-9]{1,40}\s+$"
"^[A-Z0-9_]{10,200}\s+$"
"^[[]PRiVATE[]][ ][\][A-Z0-9]{10}[\]"

I've noticed in some of the porn groups that the "[A-Z0-9]" filters are catching some legit posts. I might try applying the filter to the display of your groups (in the post listing) and make sure it's not catching things you don't want to catch.

I'm not really doing much header filtering. I'm always afraid it's going to catch something I want.
