How does downloading actually work?
Posted: Mon Sep 21, 2026 11:34 amEven though I've been downloading for years, I don't really understand the process and have a situation where I need to. I use NZB Finder to list the NZB files and then either click the download button which then prompts to save the NZB in a folder, or sometimes I select multiples and when I click the top download button, it prompts to save a ZIP file. When I create a ZIP, I don't want Newsbin to extract all the NZBs and start downloading immediately, which is what happened a few days ago because I forgot to close it. I quickly closed Newsbin but when I reopened it, they all started up again, as designed, and I paused and then deleted them from the list. Then a day or 2 later I got a Warning email from NZB Finder that I had downloaded 50 NZBs 4 times each, and they threatened to cut me off if it keeps happening. The email had a number of suggestions to check but since I'm not clear, I wrote their support to get clarification, and got a useless reply. SO....
When I download an NZB, what happens? It takes a few seconds to get it from the indexer, and then Newsbin loads it up and I use 2 different servers to download the files. After I initially get the NZB, does Newsbin or my download server ever connect to NZB Finder again? If my data is coming through my download servers, why are they complaining about multiple downloads?
This has also prompted me to start looking for another indexer, just in case. I'm looking at Reddit as suggested in a different post. And is there a better way to understand Sonarr, Sickbeard, etc. programs because when I first read about them it seemed confusing and not necessarily how I wanted to download but maybe I just don't understand. Thanks.
