New Watch feature in 6.50.

Postby Quade » Sat Mar 16, 2013 12:11 am

Working on a new feature for the soon to be beta 6.50.

You can setup simple filters to filter out all header downloads and send the matching ones to a custom listing and/or send them to the download list. You'll be able to load the listing as if you're loading a group. It'll only show the matching files.

Say you want to keep track of a series called "Big pussy" and you want to get the files before they vanish from the server. You'd setup a filter called "Big pussy". In the filters you'd set the min and max size, what groups you want to keep track of and/or you can spec what poster you want the files from. The search string might look like:

"Big pussy 720p|1080P"
Min Size: 500 M
Max Size: 5G
Poster: pussy@home.com
Groups: <Some groups parent>.

Then you can spec where they download and if you want them to download automatically. You could set Newsbin to automatically download headers, pick these files out of the downloaded headers and then hand them off to the download list. In that way, you'd never be more than 15 minutes from getting the files and it could be totally automated.

Eventually it'll integrate with search too so, you can set this up and not bother downloading headers, just hit search every 15 minutes for matching files. When I say eventually, I means as soon as I write the code.

Dex is playing with it right now, he's pretty excited about it. You can do this now with the filter profiles and automode but, it's too complicated and not that easy to manage. In this way you can add the watches like groups, load them like groups and delete them when you don't want to watch for them any more.

This is cool for persons who don't use apps for the automatic watch/download of their favorite movies/shows.
Soon, NBP will be an "all in one" software.
Thanks in advance for this feature.

Is this feature similar to Sickbeard because, if it is, integrating it in newsbin is a great idea.

I suppose you can only track a series if the name is included in the header because sometimes they are obscured :)

The search server de-obscures them when it can find the data. This will support search too so, that would be another way to get the data. I've noticed lately that there are fewer and fewer obscured posts.

Does this feature if you choose to automatically download it, put it at the top or place a higher priority over the other downloads. If you have a large queue of downloads I would imagine adding an even larger set of files behind it would negate any benefits of adding it to the list immaediately.

I added that feature to NZB Autoload, I can consider adding it here too.

Would it be possible to get a.b.mom de-obscured in search, looks like x264 posters have moved there?

Ok, it's working pretty well. I haven't plumbed in Internet Search yet but, that's next. Basically, I have a number of pseudo groups that fill in with matches with every header download. It's like an automatic custom list.

Can you auto grab *.nzb and place them in their newsgroup name folder?

You can do that the old way. With automode and a filter profile assigned to the group. If the profile has a "subject accept" for "[.]nzb". It'll download all the NZB and if you have the download path include $(GROUP) then can all download to their own groups.

I download all the headers in a group then pick and choose what to download. if I can get the watch and download to work automatically then I can just make a list of items to watch and download. Usually it's tv shows so if I can make a long list shows to watch out for it would save me a lot time.

All I need now is how to use the watch feature. So please give some instruction how to get watch feature working.

1 - Right click "New Watch"

2 - Give it a name

3 - Fill in the windows. "Tig Old Biddies 720p" for example for a search string.

4 - Full in a favorite poster if you want.

5 - Set a min size if you want. I like to set this to 100 megs.

6 - Set a topic to look at. I mean a topic group from the regular groups list. In my case I'd probably select "porn".

When you download headers, any matches are added to the watch item. Then you right click it, and load it like a regular group.

Hopefully you're only "Download all headers" one time per group because the old headers never change. Normally you just want to get the latest after you've downloaded them all once.

Watch list only works on new headers. Downloaded since you added the watch item.

For the search string can you use "" or do you need to do a watch setting for each separately?

You can do

"tig|old|chevy"

with no spaces = OR "tig OR Old OR Chevy"

It'll match on ANY of those words if you do that.

Words by themselves = AND

so "tig old biddies 720p" requires that all of those words be in the subject.

You can mix and match too.

"(tig|Old|Chevy) 720p"

Which means "match any of the first 3 words and require that 720P also be in any matches.

It's conventional regular expressions as long as you don't embed spaces.

I finally got the watch feature to work and it will download. But only by using one word searches. Using the multi searches on one line doesn't, Last night I used "" I got nothing.

Also the filtering part in the watch feature is that hooked up? If you make a new watch item you can point to a filter profile but if you edit an old watch item, the filter tab is greyed out.

Any spaces - which you have - in the search string will make it not work the way you think it will. You have to fill the spaces between some of your words with ".*" for when the want to OR like this. Spaces trigger AND which in this case makes the search string not work.

I set the filter and downloaded the latest headers and nothing happened , it didn't automatically scan the downloading headers for *.nzb

I then loaded and viewed the headers and it just made a mess of the list with everything marked as red and rejected apart from the the NZBs in green.

Would I be able to use this to download any posts by a particular poster in a particular group (or groups) all throughout the day, say checking every 5 minutes or so? If so how do I set it to run all day with the specified intervals?

Yes.

1 - You create a watch and add the poster.

2 - Set the watch to automatic download mode.

3 - You tell Newsbin to download headers periodically. It's in the options.

You can't set it any more often than 15 minutes though.

I have a question as to the poster id to use, in newsbin it displays poster as hereisaname (hereisanother@name). Do I use the first part or the second part, I tired the whole string and it didn't work. One more question, what is the regex for downloading everything? I tried * but it said that is invalid. Thanks again!

- Just leave the subject match thing blank. Well, that works in B5/B6.

"hereisanother" would work.

"hereisaname \(hereisanother@name\)"

should also work. Notice I escaped the "(" and ")".

I tried both hereisanother as well as hereisanother@name and tried it both with and without quotes for the poster name. To test I went back and marked a previous post as new in the list and tried double clicking on the watch, and nothing populates in the list.

It only retrieves from header downloads. Nothing you do in a post list can test this. It's actually something I'm thinking about improving. Like adding the ability to scan an existing group.

I just entered mine as "blabla@bla.com" with no quotes. Then downloaded headers for the group and watch it populate the watch item.

I'll have to think of a way to let you test this.

It was a header download. I marked a already downloaded post as new which should have allowed the watch item to kick off. Being able to scan and just right click a name to create a watch would be great.

I just don't get why you think this does anything to the watch items. It doesn't. Newsbin doesn't re-download old headers unless you actually tell it to.

If you look at the watch item in the group list. It doesn't show any numbers?

When you added the watch items and the from address. There's a line under where you added the poster that lets you test them against the email address you're looking for. Did you try that? The button says "Test Expression".

I just added a feature to let you re-run the watch items on any existing groups to both test the watch lists and to populate them with existing headers.
