Version 5.55 Beta 9 Available...

Postby dexter » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:29 am

Beta 8 has a fix for the download timer in the Status Bar that everyone missed so much. Other changes include:
  • Fixed issue where underscore is was getting added to NZB folder name.
  • Fixed purging in Files list, capped at 4000 files.
  • Fixed issue in AutoPAR processing with files using a certain naming convention
  • Hide Old now controls whether old's are loaded depending on the setting of hide old mode in the options.

Complete history of 5.55 changes including the download link are on the Newsbin Beta Page.

Please report issues to us either by replying to this thread, posting another message in this forum, or by using our technical support form

When doing an update with files in the download list, the download list isn't scrolled. Cosmetic only.

Maybe a Wine issue again.

Just to let you know, did install v5.54 and update, ghosting is still there.

After that, I uninstalled newsbin completely, after backing up data folder, and just did clean install of b9. All is good again. I know updates from here will work just fine.

Time to bury ghosting behind me. As long as timer works in b9, will not bother going back.

Just one note, somehow with all the previous updates, I like to use Big Toolbar, (personal choice), the text went missing on the icons. After clean install, they are back on the icons. Not quite sure which beta wiped out the text though.

Will the progress bar be put back in the download tab for actions like "mark all old"? Since my NBP machine is remote (basement) it is hard to tell when the action is done without the line in the tab. I couldn't find a switch to turn it on and off either, unless I missed it.

The new autopar system is very confused. In the old system you could see what Newsbin was doing but not anymore. I see in the autopar tab several times Rar Decode, but nothing is happening. For a few hours i see only this:

Image

Before i saw the progress bar when it was busy but now it won't work anymore whit some files. Also tryd the rescan and decode button.

Maybe it is possible to show why it won't extract? Or some more info? I just manually extract both items whiteout repair.

I hope you understand me. :wink:

I have the same problem. A lot of files are stuck with "RAR Decode" in v5.55b8. Have been waiting for > 12 hrs.... Image link not allowed for unregistered users

Working for me. Maybe it's "delete autopar2.db3" time. Maybe it's "won't decode encrypted files" or "check the logging tab for errors" time. You could PM me an example to try too.

As for waiting 12 hours...it's either doing to work or it won't. Waiting won't help.

If you look in the Advanced section of the Newsbin User Guide it tells you how to get the content of the Log tab written to disk as well as to memory.

Are you using XP? Dex noticed and someone else reported a problem accessing disks under XP that doesn't affect Vista or 7. Dex rebooted and the problem went away so, I honestly don't know what it might be.

It didn't extract because of the filename.

...part2.rar looks like a new style RAR format
...part2.r01
...part2.r02 - but the rest of the files look like old style rars so, Newsbin couldn't find the "First Part" to start the decode from.

So basically "...part2.rar" IS the first part but, it's not the first part in NEW rar naming scheme which the filename implies that it is.

That's why it didn't automatically decode and in fact is why the decode button won't work.

No, using W7 x64.

Thanks Quade for looking into it.

Actually, at least for some of these archives, it is an "old problem". After Newsbin downloading & AutoPAR processing I have:
myFile.pt1.par2 = Needs Repair
myFile.pt2.par2 = RAR Decode
myFile.pt3.par2 = RAR Decode
myFile.pt4.par2 = RAR Decode
each par2 file covers 25% of the the RAR files

If I "Test" myFile.pt1.par2 (invoking QuickPar), it is OK. No repair needed. Thus, the message " Needs Repair" seems to be a "bug" in Newsbin?

Anyway, if I highlight myFile.pt1.par2 and click Refresh/Rescan*, it starts the File scan and then RAR decoding (w/o repairing). The RAR decoding is successful. myFile.pt1.par2 and the first 25% of the RAR files are thereafter deleted.

I understand that this situation occurs because the poster is breaking up the pars in 4 sets. However, it is difficult to force people to change their habits.

In any case, why aren't the remaining 75% of the RAR files deleted after successful decoding of the complete set?

Edit:
*) Instead of pressing the Refresh/Rescan button, the results are identical if I press "Decode/Unpack" (again demonstrating that the "Needs Repair" status is incorrect).

I think I've found the problem with Ctrl-R not working in the 5.55 beta versions. It seems that if you delete the contents of the Read Posts folder (including the CHUNKS_V1 subfolder) then I get this error:

[09:07:41] Level: ERROR MODULE=NNTPServerWorker, MSG=Read Posts: Can't create output file

If I manually recreate the CHUNKS_V1 subfolder then Ctrl-R works again. I've tried this several times, and it's repeatable. Apparently the 5.55 beta series will not attempt to recreate CHUNKS_V1 if it is missing. I suppose 5.54 did recreate it, but since I've moved to the latest beta I can't say for sure.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I fixed it thanks.

Wasn't making the chunk folder. On my setup, the chunk folder was already there so, it always worked.

Ive noticed, that if I delete files from the queue, after theyve started downloading (smaller files rather than larger files), the Newsbin purges them from the queues but the temp files remain on the disk in a locked state. Newsbin only gives them up after a shutdown, and then it seems to have exitted but the tasks sits in the background and has to be killed or the handles closed with procexp

Ive could be the a/v but its annoying at times.

Both the smallest and the next smallest PAR2 file are downloaded (added to AutoPAR tab) for some RAR sets, e.g.
myset.PAR2
myset.vol00+01.PAR2

The result is that I am left with
myset.vol00+01.PAR2
in the AutoPAR tab after successful repair/decode and deletion of the set.

I've been seeing this occasionally as well with b9 (and maybe b8).

I accidentally added several files to the Download list. After I removed them from the list, they displayed as "Finished". What does this mean?

I am not sure if those files were also marked as downloaded?

What is the difference between Remove From List and Clear List?

I can not find the new b8 feature:

"New feature under Options/Switches allows control of whether "Show Posts" reads old posts into memory or not. Posts downloaded or marked old will no longer be read from disk which could lead to faster load times."

It does not seem related to the "Display Group Mode"?
That only relates to hiding old.

Yes, I saw that, but it didn't seem related to this feature?
Is "Display all Files and hide old ones" the same as previously; e.g. old files are still loaded, and can be shown/hidden depending on if "Hide Old" is checked?
